Holiday Boat Parades in Long Beach and Orange County, December 2013

Where to watch the boat parades in Long Beach and Orange County

It’s that time of year again, and Southern California has kicked off the season of Holiday Boat Parades. If you wanted to rent a boat on the day of the parades, you may be out of luck, as I discovered when I tried to book one a few days ago — apparently people reserve the coveted Duffy boats for parade days during the summer. However, you can watch the festivities from the sidelines, and not have to deal with the dreaded on-the-water boat traffic.

Naples Holiday Boat Parade

The Naples Holiday Boat Parade is on December 21st starting at 6:00 pm. The streets on Naples island will be closed to traffic after 5pm – so plan on parking outside the neighborhood and walking in. Strolling through the canal streets in Naples is a beautiful experience during the holidays. So many of the residents decorate their houses with fabulous holiday lights and displays, and the lights twinkle on the water during a romantic evening stroll. There will even be groups of carolers performing on the island during the parade. Check the Naples website for info on where to park.

If you want a reservation during the parade with a view of the water – I recommend you make the call right away.

Newport Beach Holiday Boat Parade

Every year Newport Beach hosts a large Boat Parade in Newport harbor; this year’s parade is the 105th annual Christmas Boat Parade on December 18-22nd.  The parade route is rather spread-out, so here’s a copy of the parade route.

There’s many places to view the parade for FREE from the shoreline – but one of the most exciting places to see the parade is the Balboa Fun Zone who has bleachers set up for viewing for $10 adults, $5 children – purchased on site – so arrive early.

Some restaurants offer a view of the parade route such as the Balboa Bay Resort, Harborside Restaurant, and Rusty Pelican — but as before, I recommend you call for a reservation as soon as possible.

If you’d like to view the boat parade from the water, there are several boat charters available on the parade nights. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade website offers a list of the vendors offering boat charters.

Huntington Beach Cruise of Lights

Huntington Harbor Philharmonic is hosting their 51st Annual Cruise of Lights on December 14-15 and 19-23, 2013. This is a charity event that supports youth music programs for the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for children, and babies are free. The cruise passes through Huntington Harbor and by all the decorated homes on the water.

Shuttles to the cruise leave from the Huntington Harbour Mall parking lot. 16889 Algonquin Street  Huntington Beach, CA 92649

We hope you can make it out to one of these fantastic holiday boat parades!
